Center, centrally located downtown
in City Hall, is the perfect starting
point. From there, take a road trip
south to the Clear Lake area, where
you’ll find Gulf Greyhound Park for
year-round pari-mutuel wagering and
Space Center Houston, home of NASA.
Also in the area, Mother Nature finds
sanctuary at Armand Bayou Nature Center
and a vintage-style boardwalk grace
the waterfront town of Kemah. Further
south is Galveston’s flight of fancy,
the Lone Star Flight Museum, and Moody
Gardens’ Aquarium and Rainforest and
Discovery Pyramids, the sparkling
jewels of Galveston Island. Head north
to visit Traders Village, the country’s
largest outdoor market, or Mercer
Arboretum, another back-to-nature
excursion. A close-in wildlife retreat
is found at the Houston Arboretum,
near Memorial Park, while a different
kind of wild life is downtown at Bayou
Place, which keeps the beat with urban

is the Heritage Society’s Sam Houston
