Royalty, celebrities and politicians have been
frequent guests at the Regal Biltmore since it
opened in 1923. Visit the Los Angeles Public Library.
Designed by Bertram Goodhue and Carleton Winslow
Sr., the building combines Beaux Arts monumentality
with touches of Byzantine, Egyptian and Roman
styles in surface ornament. Across the street,
a miniature river bisects the Bunker Hill Steps,
which have been compared to Rome's Spanish Steps.
At the top of the steps and across the street,
find the Wells Fargo Center with works of art
by Louise Nevelson, Jean Dubuffet and Joan Miro.
MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art , designed
by the renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki,
is located here as well. Hop on the DASH bus to
explore the museum's sister site, the Geffen Contemporary
at MOCA. A short walk away is Little Tokyo. This
century-old neighborhood is the cultural home
of Southern California's 200,000-plus Japanese
Americans. In the heart of Little Tokyo lies the
world's largest collection of Japanese American
documents and artifacts, housed in the Japanese
American National Museum , a former Buddhist temple.
Two
sushi bars stand out in Little Tokyo: Hama Sushi
and Sushi Gen . Discover the rebirth of L.A. public
transportation with a venture into the Gateway
Transit Center. Just east of historic Union Station,
the Center links subway, bus, commuter rail and
transnational rail systems. The
Center provides an excellent introduction to L.A.'s
new subway system.

The systemis is one of the nation's largest
public art programs, with artworks ranging
from dancing lights to live fish.
Whether your taste runs to
classical music, opera, cutting-edge drama
or big-budget musicals, you'll find something
of interest at the seven-acre Music Center.
The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, site of the
Academy Awards, is also home to the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, the L.A. Opera and the L.A.
Master Chorale. The Mark Taper Forum offers
contemporary drama, while the Ahmanson Theater
has hosted such modern blockbusters as Phantom
of the Opera. Los Angeles awaits you ...
