Venice
consists of more than a hundred
islands linked by almost 400
bridges. The most famous is
the Bridge of Sighs. In Venice,
each building is a work of art
and history is embedded on every
corner. Piazza San Marco the
heart of Venice, the only true
square in Venice has been the
center of Venetian social life
for almost a millennium.

It
is also where you'll find shops selling
and making Murano glass, masks and
others objects of art. If you are
lucky enough you can go to the island
of Murano (ask at your hotel lobby
for this special trip) and get a peek
inside the factory's workshop. Going
to one of the factories, you can sometimes
see the master craftsmen at work,
preparing the object you are about
to buy. Watch out for the month of
August, when most businesses are closed.
Don't worry about shopping, though,
because venetian bridges have become
stretched street markets, where you
can find anything, from food to water,
to souvenirs and clothing. There are
only two ways of traveling in Venice:
one is on foot, walking along all
those characteristic ‘calle’ and crossing
the exquisite "campielli"
( typical Venetian small squares).
Walking in Venice could become a trip
in the special history of this amazing
city! Possibility is given by reading
of "nizioleti", where the place names
of Venice are written. In this way
"calli", "campi" and "fondamenta"
tell anecdotes coming from reality
and legend that normally escape tourists.
Like the Bridge of Wonders, which
tells the story of a girl who was
really ugly and sad for this. But
on a starry night a young man, seing
seven stars in the sky, thaught of
the girl, like one. She became beautiful,
he fell in love and ... you know the
rest. The other way of traveling is
by boat; either by the public transportation
system ‘ACTV’ water bus, or private,
ferry boat, or water taxis.

The
ultimate form of transportation,
for which Venice is also famous,
are the gondolas, unquestionably
the finest way to move about
the canals of Venice on romantic
moonlit
nights. Or, if you want to feel
the emotion of having a very
inexpensive gondola trip (for
600 lire) you can go to one
of the seven "traghetti", often
used by the Venetians. It's
not so romantic but you will
feel like one of them ... And
have a great time in Venice
!
